COPENHAGEN · STYLE & PACKING NOTES
Copenhagen in fall:
what I’d pack for a walkable city break
A polished, comfortable capsule wardrobe for crisp city walks, changeable weather and days that move from sightseeing to dinner.

Copenhagen is a city I love to imagine exploring slowly: long walks past colorful facades, a pause for coffee, then dinner somewhere that makes you want to linger. For a fall trip, I’d build outfits around that kind of day—layers that feel pulled together, shoes I can truly walk in and pieces that work in more than one combination. This is a planning guide, not a firsthand report from a Copenhagen autumn.
01
Start with layers that do more than one job
A lightweight knit, a striped long-sleeve top and a polished shirt or blazer make an easy base. I’d bring a trench or another weather-ready coat that can go over all three. The point is to adjust as the day changes without packing a different outfit for every stop.
For bottoms, choose a couple of pieces that feel good after hours on your feet: tailored trousers, relaxed dark denim or a soft skirt with tights. A simple dress can earn its space too, especially if it works with both a cardigan and the coat. I like a small palette—camel, navy, cream and one print—so getting dressed stays easy.
02
Make the shoes earn their suitcase space
A city break can turn into far more walking than the itinerary suggests. I’d prioritize a broken-in sneaker or supportive flat, then add one smarter option only if it is still comfortable for a full evening. A shoe that pinches by lunchtime is not the chic choice, no matter how good it looks in the hotel mirror.
A crossbody bag keeps essentials close while leaving hands free for a coffee, a camera or a quick stop to check the map. A scarf and compact umbrella are useful finishing pieces when the forecast calls for them; check the weather just before you leave and edit the layers accordingly.
03
My simple Copenhagen fall outfit formula
For a full day out, I’d wear a striped top under a blazer, comfortable trousers, walkable shoes and a trench I can take off indoors. For dinner, I’d swap the top for a dress or a softer knit and keep the same shoes and bag. It feels considered without asking me to sacrifice comfort—or bring half my closet.
The best capsule is the one that fits your body and your real travel habits. Choose pieces you already enjoy wearing, leave room for a little shopping or a souvenir, and give yourself permission to repeat an outfit. That’s how I want a city wardrobe to work: lovely in photos, comfortable in motion and simple enough to enjoy the trip.

JENI’S PACKING TAKEAWAY
Think in layers, repeat a small color palette and choose shoes for the miles you’ll actually walk. A few flexible favorites will take you further than a suitcase full of one-time outfits.
