QUÉBEC CITY · STYLE & PACKING NOTES
What to wear in Québec City:
summer ease and fall family layers
Two seasonal packing edits for walking Old Québec, with comfortable shoes, flexible layers and shoppable collages.

Québec City rewards the traveler who can keep walking: past stone lanes, up the hills, into a café and back out for another look. These two packing edits suit very different seasons. The summer capsule is inspiration for a warm-weather trip; our family visit was in late September, when flexible fall layers made sense. Start with your dates and the forecast, then build around shoes you can truly walk in.
01
Summer: breathable pieces for a walkable city
For warm days, I’d pack a blue midi dress, a striped tank with relaxed trousers, and a cream linen set or tan jumpsuit. A light blue button-down adds coverage for sun, air-conditioned stops and cooler evenings. Blue, cream and tan make it easy to repeat the same woven crossbody and shoes without every outfit feeling the same.
Already-broken-in sneakers would be my first choice for a full sightseeing day on Old Québec’s slopes and uneven paving. Comfortable braided sandals can come along for a shorter stroll or dinner. Keep a light layer and rain protection available if the forecast calls for them.

02
Fall: comfortable layers for the whole family
Our late-September visit brought the first hints of fall. I’d build a family wardrobe around rust, cream, navy and forest green, with plaid or a textured knit adding interest. The colors work together in photos without putting everyone in identical outfits. A rust knit and navy trousers feel polished for mom; a cream quarter-zip and dark trousers work for dad; a soft base layer under a plaid pinafore or overshirt keeps a little one comfortable.
Start with easy layers, then add a sweater or overshirt and a light jacket that can come off indoors. Check the forecast close to departure because September and October days can differ. For everyone, prioritize supportive, already-broken-in shoes with grip for the hills and old stone lanes; pack an extra pair of socks for a toddler.
03
Shop the fall family collage
I gathered the rust, cream, navy and green-plaid pieces that inspired the fall look into one shoppable collage. Browse it for ideas, then check current sizes, colors, prices and availability on Amazon.

Plan the days as well as the outfits
Our four-night family itinerary took us through Old Québec, on a river cruise and out to Montmorency Falls and Île d’Orléans. The full travel journal shares the places and pace that shaped our trip. It reflects our late-September stay and can also help you plan a summer version.
JENI’S PACKING TAKEAWAY
For either season, build a small palette around clothes you enjoy wearing and shoes that can handle Old Québec’s hills. Add breathable pieces in summer or flexible family layers in fall, then adjust to the forecast for your dates.
